7th FIG Regional Conference "Spatial Data Serving People" in Hanoi, Vietnam, 19-22 October 2009 |

Hosted by the International Federation of Surveyors, FIG and the Viet Nam Association of Geodesy, Cartography and Remote Sensing, VGCR, the 7th FIG Regional Conference took place in Hanoi Vietnam, from 19-22 October 2009. Its theme was this year "Spatial Data Serving People: Land Governance and the Environment - Building the Capacity", which was selected especially because of its relevance to the "tasks of surveyors in this day and age: when humankind is closer to each other than ever, working together towards a sustainable development and ensuring our Earth is everlasting green" as Prof. Dr. Sc. Dang Hung Vo, the The theme of this year was divided into the three sub-themes which were handled on one separate day: "Land Administration", "Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) and the Environment" as well as "Capacity Building"; respectively linked with different plenary session keynotes and issues for technical sessions. For our Centre Prof. Dr.-Ing. Holger Magel and Dr.-Ing. Fahria Masum participated in the Conference. Beyond that Prof. Magel held a speech about "Capacity building in Land Management: The need for establishing a global academic partnership", whereas Dr. Masum reported about "Urban Fringe Management and Role of Good Governance: Integrating - Stakeholders in Land Management Process". Joyous was also, that with Mr. Danilo R. Antonio, Coordinator of the Global Land Tool Network, an Alumni, and with Mrs. Rhea Lyn M. Dealca, a present student of our Master of Land Management and Land Tenure enriched the programme with their valuable contributions about "Towards Good Land Governance" respectively "Initiatives to Improve Land Administration System in the Philippines".
