The big Chinese-German Congress “Land Consolidation and Rural Development”, which took place from May 18th to 20th 2009 in the Olympic city of Qingdao, presented Prof. Magel with the opportunity of a reunion with Chinese Alumni of the Master’s Programme Land Management and Land Tenure.
Ma Xun (Alumna, academic period 2005-2007) held a presentation on Munich’s Master’s Programme during the congress, and Wang Jin (Alumna, academic period 2003-2005) played an important role in the organization of the event. Furthermore, as representative of the Ministry of Land and Resources, Liang Jun (Alumnus, academic period 2003-2005) participated in the congress as well and during the discussion pointed out the need for better education and training of Chinese Land Consolidation engineers, just like the excellent ones developed at TUM.
In connection with the congress, Prof. Magel and his former students travelled to the western autonomous province Ningxia, where, under scientific advice of Prof. Magel, the third Chinese-German land development project in the community Tiongxi has been initiated. In collaboration with Mr. Klaus Spreng (Staff of the Chair of Land Management) and Dr. Peter Jahnke (Senior Advisor of the Chair), they drafted, with intensive participation of the village inhabitants, a sustainable concept for village and land development in order to put a stop to migration and to improve life and financial conditions of the farmers.
