THE CITY OF MUNICH

Munich is the capital of Bavaria, the southernmost state of Germany. Bavaria offers an impressive cultural heritage and many areas of outstanding natural beauty. Many lakes and rivers as well as the nearby Alps provide opportunities for the whole spectrum of outdoor activities while world-famous sights like Neuschwanstein castle will help to make your weekend trips exciting cultural experiences. Munich itself, an 850-year-old city with 1.33 million inhabitants, is one of the major cultural centres in Germany with museums, theatres, the state opera, the Olympia Park and lively festivals - the famous Octoberfest being just one among many! However, beyond being a cultural centre, Munich also hosts the headquarters and major research and development departments and other facilities of many high tech companies, German as well as international. Many of them are in close co-operation with the TUM.
